THE2055: Course Objectives:

Explore playwriting techniques developed in THE 215 for theatre and apply concepts of writing for movie, television, radio, and animation scripts, with emphasis on the dramatic process and form.

Standard Competencies:

1. Identify and critically discuss the genres and their effect upon the writing and performing process.

2. Properly create and use characters, setting, story, theme and dialogue within the different genres of dramatic scripts.

I. Review of Dramatic Literature
A. Brief historical overview of development of theatre and drama as literature
B. Survey of styles, genres and form

II. Script Mechanics and Dramatic Structure
A. Script mechanics
B. Dramatic structure

III. Development of the Script in contemporary forms
A. Approaches to writing for the stage, television, film and animation.
B. Creative writing exercises in all specified forms

IV. Elements of Character, Plot, Dialogue, and Setting for stage, television, film and animation.
